Big Jim was Mattel's answer for the action figure market of the early to mid seventies in the U.S.  Mattel was looking for an action figure toy to follow up the successful Major Matt Mason line and to compete with Hasbro's G.I. Joe.  Anti-war sentiment was also a consideration in the design of  the Big Jim action figure.  Big Jim was successful in the 70s in the U.S. and continued into the mid eighties in Europe.  See the history page to find out more.
